Been considering an e-reader? Can't stand the thought of having to buy new electronic copies of your favorite literary masterpieces?

Enter the Book Saver from ION Audio (yes Audio). ION Audio is best known for its audio conversion hardware such as the ION TTUS line of digitizing turntables and cassette decks that allow users to convert their favorite records and tapes into MP3's

The ION Book Saver consists of a frame that holds the pages at the proper angle, a pair of digital cameras which capture the pages and software that converts the printed page to text and imbeds the pictures. Once the book is fully scanned in it can be quickly transferred to a computer or e-reader.

While we haven’t heard what sort of conversion software they will ship with the item it should be noted that many of your favorite e-book formats are proprietary. The consumer should check carefully to see that the Book Savers output is compatible with their e-readers.

ION reps tell us that the Book Saver can digitize a 200 page book in about 15 minutes and like the CD and Vinyl Rippers that came before making copies of your literature for your personal use is 100% legal. Sharing of course is verboten!
