Dell Streak 7 for T-Mobile : Latest Specs and Observation

Announced at CES earlier this year Dell showed the new Dell Streak 7 Tablet. T-Mobile will soon release its newest Android OS tablet to the public on February 1st. The Dell Streak 7 at first blush is basically last years Dell Streak smartphone, albeit in a slightly larger package. (spes after the jump)

Unfortunately the same problems that plagued release of the Streak most of the initial complaints refer to the units size, while the original Streak was deemed too large for a smartphone, the Streak 7 is a bit too small for a tablet. It's almost small enough to get into my inside jacket pocket but doesn’t leave room for my Mints. And from my perspective the mints are more important on a day to day basis.

Here are the Raw Specs.
  • Name: Dell Streak 7

Spec wise the Dell Streak 7 doesn’t stray very far from the current stable of upper range smartphones. Android 2.2, a vaguely washed out display at 480x800 with a camera array that is pretty much identical to every phone we've seen so far. Dell smartly incorporates Gorilla glass into its display, unfortunatly its still one good drop from becoming an expensive mess.

The price on the Dell Streak 7 is one of its most outstanding features, T-mobile subsidized price of the Dell Streak 7 will hover right around $200 with applicable rebate at the time of its release 2.1.11. The two hundred dollar price point was expected. In a rush to pick up as many new contracts as possible before the announcement from Apple about its newest incarnation of the iPad. To turn a phrase “everybody is doing it”.

Now I personally question the usefulness of Tablets in general but this sentiment goes double in the case of the Dell Streak 7. It's closer to a phone then a net book and with its garden variety specs I just don't see the Dell Streak 7 making much of an impact for T-Mobile. I for one am waiting for the Dell Streak 10, Thinking the larger display and hopefully more powerful hardware and architecture will make it worth the wait.
