SSPT or Site Security Planning Tool, is a software system that uses 3D graphics and other video gaming components to simulate a myriad of security situations. The program can be set up to simulate any threat including Armed attacks, Chemical and biological or radiological assaults, even suicide bombers and terrorist insurgents.
Dubbed the Virtual Tiny Town after the scale model training center used to give operatives field experience and instruction. The SSPT is built more like a video game then a computer simulation program. the SSPT Has a nearly endless capacity for making graphic representations of situational threats.
It seems to me that this new technology is key to updating the assessment and response of field units who find themselves on the predictably chaotic scene of an attack. Giving the trainers an opportunity to evaluate their response and put any changes necessary directly into the simulation.
It's being said that this Sim City-esque system will come to replace the original tiny town a miniature static model environment that the Secret Service has been using for over 40 years. I doubt that, there will always be a need to set operatives in more physical situations to allow them to feel the pressure of working with real walls and corners.
I for one can not wait until a major game designer gets hold of this and brings us a fun to play version of this life or death response simulator.
