The one thing I'm looking for in the iPad2 or any tablet for that matter, is the ability to increase productivity. If I want to see a movie I have a screen for that. If I want to play games I have two or three screens for that. Computing why yes I also have a screen for that as well. Fact is without a productivity angle the tablet becomes a toy and in this economy I simply cant afford a toy made of glass that costs $500.
Nothing we've seen so far this year hints at increased productivity. We have faster, more responsive, better cameras, more storage options and a half dozen types of connectivity but nothing that really increases the role of the tablet form factor no advances in function or productivity. And this in a relatively new market.
With the tablet market heating up to a fevered pitch months before the actual devices hit the shelves I think the one thing that could put the Apple iPad2 over the top is you guessed it, handwriting recognition and stylus input. And it has been said that great minds think alike.
Patently Apple reports that Apple has filed patent on a new type of stylus. And while Apple patents a lot of things they never use but I have to think this is not just another back burner project. The iPad2 needs this if it wants to have an impact in a full rush market it needs a real edge.
