PlayStation Branded Games for all. Android PlayStation Suite.

Leave it to Sony to put themselves in the middle of the fastest growing game market in the world. Smartphone Gaming has caught on like wildfire with thousands of Games at Apple's App Store, as well as the Android Marketplace. The number of games being directly developed or ported to work with the tiny screens grows daily.

Enter the PlayStation Suite. A new initiate by Sony to bring both classic PlayStation games as well as newly developed titles to be used on Google's Android Platform. Sony Also says it will be providing a “new game development environment,” to encourage the creation of new games for the PS Suite.

The new PlayStation Suite will require Android 2.3 operating system initially with other Android versions hopefully to follow as they become more widely available. Sony execs also said the company will partner with hardware makers to create a PlayStation Certified licensing program.“Through this program, SCE will offer the necessary support including development support as well as logo licensing to ensure delivery of PlayStation quality experience across various devices”

Perhaps the most noteworthy part of this new program is that for the first time, Sony will allow PlayStation content to be available on an open operating system. It's actually a mighty brave move in a field of relative platform secrecy.
